The Wonderful World of Work

Hello again, my faithful followers. Sorry about the lack of update last weekend, and I know I promised, but this time I generally was waiting for something truly exciting to tell you all about. Anyway, things have been pretty dreary out here quite recently; the sun is becoming far more reluctant to come out and play, whilst the wind seems more than happy to take it's place. Yes, while spring may or may not have sprung for you back home, autumn is most definitely on the winds here...literally.

Anyway, since my last update, things have been going as well as one would expect. Working with the Property Services team is more fun than I would have previously imagined. They're a great bunch. The fact that I'm a pome seems to have been flattened by the fact that they already have an English guy and a Scott on their team. Anyway, the work is more or less the same everyday, sometimes the jobs change, i.e. one day I might be sweeping the paths clear, whilst on another I might be watering the flower tubs that are dotted around certain areas of the campus, or I might be asked to help out on supply runs to the other colleges, bringing them vital supplies of toilet paper or hand towels, or whatever it is they may be running low on.

Anyhoo, that's work with PS. Now onto the work I've done for the Union so far. Only one day actually, and let me tell you I much prefer working for the PS team, mainly because I didn't have to go out and buy a pair of formal black trousers to work with them. Basically what the Union had me doing was helping to prepare certain venues for welcoming parties for the new students. I tell you, I was more or less on my feet from 2pm-11pm last Friday, folding napkins, dressing tables, loading food, unloading said food before finally serving said food at the Pacific Islander's Welcome do, to finally helping to clear up after said Pacific Islander's Welcome do. Busy, busy, busy. It didn't really help that I was wearing my new black shoes for the whole day, so as you can imagine, my feet were killing me by the time it was over. Still, it was good fun, and the people who I was working with were just as friendly as the PS crew...if not slightly more highly strung.

Anyway, the last two weeks haven't all been work. I've been up to a few things, not as much as previous but still. Anyway, last Thursday I tagged along with Sam to the Arana House Glow Stick party for the new students. It was good fun, I enjoyed myself, met some new people, and was able to keep a few glow sticks...which have now lost their glow. The weekend didn't see too much excitement. John's six year old grand-daughter, Lilly, came over to stay. Claire and John broke out their barbecue and invited some guests round; I spent the afternoon being chased around by Lilly and other small children...Anyway, same evening Emma and Paul,(Simon was at home with a cold) took me out for a walk along the "Mole", a massive artificial peninsula, which was pretty damn impressive considering that it was made before heavy machinery was available, and we saw some fur-seals, which was good fun, (pictures soon, I promise). Anyway, nothing else happened for the rest of the weekend, save for my being invited up to Emma's Dad's (Claire's Ex) for Sunday Dinner. Other than that, last week was pretty much the same.

Anyway, I am spending this weekend at Emma and Paul's. Since she is down in Auckland, I volunteered to use my culinary skills to keep the boys fed...though it looks as though I won't be doing much today, seeing as Simon has gone off to a friend's barbecue party and Paul is attending a party tonight...sigh.

Ah well, things happen. Right, that pretty much brings you up to speed on what has happened since my last update, I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed experiencing it...not bloody likely I suppose, but, you never know.

Laters people.

Alex
